The Elephant Conservation Science and Veterinary Research Group website functions to provide current information concerning advances in elephant research in key topics that are relevant for wild and captive elephant management.
This website provides not only basic explanations of elephant conservation topics such as endtheliotropic herpesvirus and tuberculosis but also an explanation of the implications of new findings for elephant management and conservation.
The information on this website is provided directly by experts in each field. The expert panels are comprised of researchers, veterinarians and elephant management professionals.
Additionally, this website serves as an information network with interactive message boards connecting elephant professionals around the world to facilitate the open exchange of ideas and materials in order to ensure the success of elephant conservation, research and medicine. Member's also have access to conference proceedings. Eventually, we would like to include online CE courses relating to elephant conservation science and veterinary medicine.
This website contains a multi-level password-protected members' area, which are partially integrated. Public users have no access to the member areas.
Elephant Professional:
for elephant professionals to safely and confidentially discuss and post information and pose questions to each other as well as open discussions with experts. (no access to the researchers’ area)
Veterinarians:
For veterinarians to discuss medical cases, medicines, vaccines, management issues, etc. (no access to researchers’ area)
Researchers:
strictly limited to expert researchers in a particular field so that, for example, discussions among EEHV researchers will not be visible or accessible by tuberculosis researcher and vice-versa. The reason for the strict access limitations, is to protect the unpublished data of these researchers creating a secure forum to facilitate open exchange of scientific information for the sake of elephant conservation and health.
All three sections will be able to communicate with each other; although, certain pages, information and interactive message boards is not accessible depending on access level.
